Karaburun Sazan NATIONAL PARK NATIONAL PARK NATIONAL PARK (IUCN II) Karaburun-Sazan (CCP K-S),
The first and only National Marine Park in Albania was announced in 2010 (DCM No. 289, dated 28.04.2010), including an area of 12,570.82 ha. The announcement of this park offers a pragmatic approach aimed at establishing a balance between sustainable economic development and conservation of natural resources by providing long-term protection and maintenance of biodiversity, while simultaneously providing a sustainable flow of natural products and services to support development of coastal communities.
The main objectives of his revelation are:
- Protecting and preserving biodiversity and other natural values of the area in the long run.
-Promotion of sound management practices for sustainable production purposes.
- Protecting natural resources from alienation for other uses of land that would be harmful to the biodiversity of the area.
- Contribution to regional and national development.
This Maritime Park represents a very rich and attractive place in terms of natural and cultural heritage attractions, both at sea and on land. It reveals a rich traditional culture of lifestyle, folklore, music, crafts, gastronomy, etc. The area is a shelter for at least 36 marine species of international importance belonging to the list of endangered species and / or protected by several international conventions. At national level, about 75% of endangered species of marine animals are recorded in the area. Although the main sectors of the economy that rely on this ecosystem are traditional farming, livestock farming and fishing, tourism remains one of the most important activities of the Park, creating economic opportunities and enabling a wide range of natural tourism activities. While the coast is the main natural attraction for sun-sea tourism, the area is also of particular interest for specific tourist activities such as: diving, tourist trips, movement / climbing along certain paths, walking to tourist destinations linking the coastal area to the interior, etc. All these values make this Park one of the most potential areas of Albania's coastline as a tourist destination in many aspects: environmental, rural, natural, landscape, historical, cultural, archaeological, etc.
